A Bennett Custom Award – The Patron of the Arts Award – was presented to Sherry Lansing, the former CEO of Paramount Pictures and the first women to head a major studio. This unique custom award was given to Lansing by the Screen Actors Guild Foundation at a ceremony held on April 22, 2009 at a private estate in Beverly Hills. The awards ceremony was attended by many of Hollywood’s most recognized actors and actresses, including Morgan Fairchild, Linda Gray, Valarie Harper and JoBeth Williams. During Lansing’s time at Paramount, the movie studio had their longest string releases since the 1930’s, including Forrest Gump, Braveheart, and Titanic, the highest grossing film of all time. In addition to Lansing’s position as CEO of Paramount Pictures, she was also the first female president of 20th Century Fox. The Patron of the Arts Award is presented annually to a person who has contributed significantly to the support of persons or projects that encourage excellence in the film industry.
