Bennett recognition awards were presented to Billie Jean King and other deserving honorees at the Tennis Champions for Children event, held July 15, 2009, at the Sportime at Randall’s Island Tennis Facility in New York. Unique awards designed by Bennett Awards were presented to King and three other New York tennis legends: Ken Solomon, Chair and CEO of The Tennis Channel; Chris Lacopo, Tennis Coach at Horace Mann School; and the late Gene Scott (in memoriam), tennis entrepreneur and well-known tennis player. These unique recognition awards recognized the contributions these individuals have made to the sport of tennis. Award presenters included John McEnroe, Martina Navratilova, and Tori Dauphinot, Randall Island Sports Foundation (RISF) trustee and benefit chair. The Bennett recognition award “Accolade”, designed by Bennett Awards artist MK Shannon, was chosen for the presentation. The awards ceremony was held in conjunction with a World Team Tennis match between the New York Sportimes and the Boston Lobsters.
